Interzone Girl's Rugby Report

On Thursday the 18th June the open grade girls travelled down to Dunkirk to compete in the interzones.

Our first match was against Northcote Intermediate which was a vey easy game and we won 31-0. Our next game was against Wesley and we thought we were going to lose but we played hard and we won 28-0.

After that match we had a bye so we started to practice some skills because our next match was for the semi-finals.

Randwick was our next opponent and we managed to keep the ball most the time. Moses and Miss Samson were really proud of us because we won 12-7.

We made it to the finals and challenged Viscount which was a rough match and unfortunately we lost. Overall we came 2nd in the tournament and this was good.

A big congratulations to Ma’ata for best back, Kathy best forward, Ramona best tackler and Alison for player of the day.

On behalf of all the girls we would like to thank Moses and Miss Samson for training us and getting us prepared for the Interzones.

It was a great achievement!

Should students be allowed to stay up late on a week night?

Should students be allowed to stay up late during the week? An adult talking like no one is sleeping, brothers and sisters watching television. The volume is very loud. It is so hard to go to sleep.

I think students should be allowed to stay up late during week days because it is impossible to go to sleep with the T.V very loud, adults talking, a radio fully blasted right next to my bed room and dogs barking very loud and crying because they want to be let off their chain.

YES! I do think students should be allowed to stay up late during the WEEK because we can not get to sleep with all the noises anyway.

Why marbles should be banned from school

Marbles rolling everywhere! Clink! Clink! Clink!
The sound of marbles hitting each other, kids with loud voices and teachers staring. Should students be allowed to bring marbles to school?

In my opinion children shouldn’t be allowed to bring marbles to school because although they’re having fun they can also cause arguments over who is the best at playing with marbles.

First of all marbles shouldn’t be allowed at school because sometimes marbles can start a fight over who won the marbles.

Second of all they shouldn’t be brought to school because it distracts students from their learning by playing with marbles during class time instead of doing their work.

My last reason is that marbles shouldn’t be brought to school is because it is very annoying when people put their marbles in their pockets and the marbles jingle all the time. Sometimes the marbles fall out of their pockets during assembly and it distracts everybody.

In conclusion marbles should be banned from school.

Animal Adaptaions Explained

Animal adaptations are physical features that help animals survive. I am going to explain a few animal adaptations to you.

GIRAFFES
A giraffe has a long neck to reach high leaves and they have long tongue to slop around those prickly thorns.

LIONS
A lion has sharp teeth for when they hunt down their prey. They use their sharp teeth to chew up their prey. A lion has a mane to scare away enemies and that’s how you can tell it’s a male.

ZEBRAS
A zebra has black and white stripes to camouflage itself to others.

BIRDS
A bird has wings so that they can fly away from enemies. Birds have very strong wings to help them fly far away from predators.

Why do people keep pets?

Pets! Why do people keep pets? People keep pets because they are loyal and understanding. Pets can also help people in many different kinds of ways. For example pets can show us love, they can guard houses, dogs can guide blind people they also give us exercise.

Pets can give people good company and they are also loving. If you are lonely you can go to your pet and talk to it. Sometimes pets are more understanding than people because if you talk to your pet it will just sit there and listen to you. However if you talk to a person that person might not even be listening to you. Pets are also very, very lovable and cuddly. If you’re sad you could go and cuddle your pet.

People also keep pets as guard dogs to guard the house while they are out shopping. Dogs can also bark if a burglar tries to steal something from the house. The dog might even bite that person that tries to steal. That would hurt wouldn’t it?

Dogs are great to keep as pets. They are fun and they can keep you and your house safe. Dogs can also warn people if there is a fire or there is something wrong.

Dogs can also guide blind people as well. They can guide blind people while they’re walking on the street and guide dogs are specially trained to guide people who are blind. If you go past a guide dog and it is wearing its special harness on then don’t distract it. The special harness means that the dog is working. Guide dogs also keep blind people company and are very playful.

Pets also help people get exercise. When people take their dos out for exercise they are actually getting exercise themselves. Pets also help people remember to go outside and exercise by grabbing their leashes and taking it to their owners. Pets are very clever aren’t they?

Those are four reasons why people keep pets but there are many more reasons why people keep pets.

Recount of Ivan Cleary Visit

On Wednesday 17th June 2009 at 1.30pm Ivan Cleary entered room 16.
Everyone was amazed that he was actually in our class.

After we welcomed him into our class Rhiana and Isaiah started to ask him questions about his life.

Then we lined up and headed to the field. Ivan Cleary went through some ball skills with us.
We were learnt to pass the ball left and to run to the ball. We were all on our best behaviour.
He taught us some skills, such as always hold the ball with two hands and hold the ball where you want to catch it.

After we finished ball skills it was time for Ivan Cleary to go. Ramona stood up and thanked Ivan Cleary for teaching us some ball skills. It was great having him teaching us some skills. We were very lucky.

Rugby Report

On Friday 5th of June the Open Grade Bays walked downed to Dunkirk Rugby field, to play Kedgeley. When we first saw them most of the team felt scared especially Joseph from Team two. He kept on talking about how big they were, but when we played it was easy to tackle them. Kedgeley scored a few minutes after kick off. They scored three times in the first half and Jayden scored on try. When we had the ball, Loma ran it up and the Kedgeley players said “dump him, dump him” and then he got dumped and Mr. Fatialofa took Loma off. In the second half Kedgeley scored 4 more times and Jayden scored his second try. Overall we lost, but it was a good games.

...Saving The Earth...

My name is Planet Earth and I am here for a reason.

I’m the whole world and I am here every season.

Let’s look after our world and help save our lives.

Come on; come on; let’s be energy wise.

If we want to live we’ve got to give.

So let’s save our lives, let’s be energy wise.

Let’s turn off our lights for an hour each day.

So one day everyone will hear us say.

Hooray! Hooray! We’re staying alive.

Hooray! Hooray! We’re going to survive.

Earths Rhyme

We have been busy learning about sustainability in class. We were given a challenge to create a song or poem about planet Earth. Here is our work, we hope you like it.

Can you help planet Earth survive?
Keep the environment clean during life.
Put your rubbish, paper, and food scraps away,
Or else planet earth is going to fade today.

When you plant trees it gives you food and wood,
People would and could so you should.
Use the same bottle every day,
It saves money and keeps earth awake.

If you’re not going far don’t use the car.
Go for a walk that’s who you are.
Me, myself, is planet Earth.
Protect me I am your turf.
