APPA Choir

On Wednesday the 18^th the Tamaki Intermediate School Choir went to the Auckland Town Hall to take part in the annual APPA mass choir festival along with many other schools.

This was the big final after practicing all year and attending all the practices.

On the way there we were all eager and we singing all the songs so we would not forget the lyrics. When we arrived there we went inside and went onto the stage. Firstly we lined up on stage with all the other schools and then took photos. After that we took our seats. We felt happy but a bit scared as we were up high by the organs. Then the lights went dim and the orchestra came out to their seats. Next the conductor came out and we started our fist item which was the national anthem. We were under way and got to sing all our songs. Everyone enjoyed it when the Kapa Haka Group came on and performed. While we were on stage there were people all around in the town hall waving to us and taking photos. It was so hot sitting there with the bright lights shinning down on us.

On the way back everyone was tired. We went back along the scenic route down Queen Street and along the water front to Orakei. Over all it was a memorable night for us all. We would like to thank Miss Dekker and Miss Hess for teaching us and Miss Waetford and Mrs. Bailey for coming with us to the town hall.

Seneti's Labour Day Recount

It was exactly 12; 30pm and my family and I just had finished having lunch. We were on our way to pick up my sister from Parakai Pools in Helensville. I was a bit nervous because it was my first time going in a car since my accident.

When we arrived there the pools were packed. There were no free car parks so my dad went and parked on the grass like a true Tongan. We got changed and hopped into the warm pool. It was freezing because they had opened the roof. After a while, Ennett [who is the manager] released the hot water.

As soon as she had released the hot water my brother and I jumped into the water slide. It was fantastic! We were twisting and flying everywhere. We went about a million times until we gave up and had a feed.

The feed was scrumptious. They had sensational hot chips and their Fanta’s were freezing cold.

After our yummy feed we swam in the outdoor pools. I found it a bit over crowed so my brother and I swam in the rock pools. My brother and I were talking happily when all of a sudden it started to poor down. Suddenly all we heard was my aunty’s foot steps so we dived under and then waited. When she had gone, we got out and sprinted our way like cheetahs running for their lives.

I went inside and had another feed. I then got changed into some warm clothes and we went home. On our way home I didn’t trust my dad so I told him to pull over so Tonga could drive. At first he didn’t want to but then he thought about it and he swapped places.

All was well. I really enjoyed my day at the pools, even playing in the rain...

Budding Musicians!!

At technology, a group of room 15 girls wrote a song and produced a piece
of music with the help of their music teacher, Miss Dekker.
Great stuff girls.

Girls Basketball 09..

On Thursday 13^th August the Girls basketball team travelled down to the A.S.B. Stadium with to compete in the Eastern Zone Basketball Tournament.

When we were arrived there we had a bye. While we were waiting for our first match we warmed up and trained for the last couple of minutes.

Our first match was against Sancta Maria. This was the easiest match ever. We won 28-6. A few minutes later we went on the court again and challenged Saint Kent’s. This was an ultra physical match. In the first half they were leading 10-6 but then we caught up and made it a tie breaker 12-12.

This was our last match for our pool. We challenged Farm Cove Intermediate. It was a very tough game but in the end we managed to pull some tricks and and we won 14-8.

Winning that last match took us to the quarter finals. Our girls were buzzing with excitement. It took us a while to calm down. We then found out that we had to challenge Remuera. This was our hardest game of the day because most of them were taller than our captain Seneti. We were confident that we were going to win but unfortunately we lost 9-8.

We would like to thank our coaches for coaching us and buying us a big feed at McDonald’s and also to those who supported us and especially to our girls for trying their best and keeping their heads up high. In the end we were all players of the day because of our effort and sportsmanship.

I guess you win some and you lose some. As our coach says, “You learn more form losing than from winning.”

Interzone Girl's Rugby Report

On Thursday the 18^th June the open grade girls travelled down to Dunkirk to compete in the interzones.

Our first match was against Northcote Intermediate which was a vey easy game and we won 31-0. Our next game was against Wesley and we thought we were going to lose but we played hard and we won 28-0.

After that match we had a bye so we started to practice some skills because our next match was for the semi-finals.

Randwick was our next opponent and we managed to keep the ball most the time. Moses and Miss Samson were really proud of us because we won 12-7.

We made it to the finals and challenged Viscount which was a rough match and unfortunately we lost. Overall we came 2^nd in the tournament and this was good.

A big congratulations to Ma’ata for best back, Kathy best forward, Ramona best tackler and Alison for player of the day.

On behalf of all the girls we would like to thank Moses and Miss Samson for training us and getting us prepared for the Interzones.

It was a great achievement!

Yr 8 Girls EZ Soccer Report..

On Monday 17^th May, the Yr8 girl’s soccer team travelled down to Riversdale Park, Avondale to compete in the Eastern Zone Soccer Tournament.

Our first match was against Mission Heights. It was a vey good game. We won 5-0.

We had a bye so we watched the other teams play.

Our next game was against Pakarunga Intermediate. Our team was down 1 nil But Mrs Sigamoney edged us on and we won 4-1.

After that match we went through to the quarter finals. There was no score until the last minute of the game when Elim scored 1 goal. Sadly, this put us out of the semi-finals.

Mrs Sigamoney said we showed great soccer skills. Our star players were our striker’s Senia and Maata. Between the both of them they scored 9 goals. We were proud of our achievements.

Thanks to Mrs Sigamoney and Mr Utanga for training us and preparing us for the tournament.
