Grandparents Are Great!!!

Boaza's Grandparents Letter

Dear Mrs. Baker

I think that my grandparents deserve the book because they are so sweet like an ever lasting lavender,
and so cuddly like a cloud that loves you back. They always ring my house to hear how we are doing and I always
try to get the opportunity to go to my grandparent's house to spend time with them. I would love if they get the
best grandparent award. My granddad
is very sick and cannot walk. One of his hands is paralyzed and he has
to rest most of the day so my grandmother has to do all the work. She works so hard for a 59 year old
loving grandmother, turning 60 this December. She has just suffered a loss of her only sister who lived in
Italy and my grandmother didn't even get a chance to say good bye.Neither did I get to meet her. Now she is alone with no sisters or brothers but she has my dad, my 2 aunts and her grandchildren. She has only my 2 brothers, my 1 sister and I as grandchildren so we always try to make her feel better. As for my grandfather, he is always glad to see us coming to see him and staying for a few nights. He enjoys the company that we give him. He loves us and so does my grandmother. This is why I think that my grandparents deserves the grandparents award because they're the best grandparents in the world. I love them so much!!

A Grandparent Poem!
It seems like only yesterday
Our lives were just beginning.
Your love for us never failed,
Our hearts continually mending.

It is strange to watch the time fly
Before our very eyes,
Which reminds me of the blessing,
That we have you in our lives

I love my grandparents
I love them so much
I want them to get the award
And a celebration brunch!

Endless Praise Youth Band Concert

Thursday 20th of August was full of excitement because the band Endless Praise came to our school. I sat at the back of the hall clutching at the video camera, waiting to capture all the action.

Miss Waetford introduced the band and then the music began. Then there was some really awesome music. Most of the music was gospel and they also sang pop songs which we enjoyed. Loud, cool music was running through my ears. After that the band members introduced themselves.

The singers wanted us to join them by doing some crazy, wicked dance moves. We all joined but some sat down. More songs and more songs, just amazing.

When the songs finished, the band invited three students to come on stage and perform. Falaniko, Maata and Samson sang and did cool dances. Falaniko was very confident and he did more than one performance. When Maata sang, Falaniko started dancing with a huge cheesy smile.

We all thought that the band gave a great performance. It would be good to have them back again.

Tamaki College Recruitment - Boaza

On Tuesday 16th of August 2009 The Deputy Principle of Tamaki College Mr Dunn came to our school to recruit some new students to Tamaki College next year.

First he took us through the school brochure. The information looked pretty interesting and motivating. There was also a pamphlet about applying for a Yr 9 Scholarship. The reward is that you can get a laptop and your own printer! Wow! Wait, there’s more. You can also get internet access! Awesome!!

After that he talked about the School Safety Charter. This explained the rules and the consequences. To me, Tamaki College is a secure environment to learn and a safe college to be at.

Students then asked questions. Miss Waetford asked the DP what happens if you’re late. He said that if you miss your tutor class then you might have a detention the school will send a letter of concern to your parents. Better get to bed early and be on time guys!

Well I just can’t wait to go to Tamaki College. The Scholarship looks really attractive. Tamaki College seems like a school that will provide me with heaps of opportunities to excel.

A Memorable Trip To Tonga

Malo le lei. On the 20th of July 2009 a few students from our school went on a trip to the Kingdom of Tonga, Nuku’alofa. When we first landed, a huge bus was waiting for us at the airport. We were all excited but the air felt a bit sticky.

We left the airport and drove around sightseeing and then we stopped at a humungous rock that we were allowed to climb. Most of us climbed it but some of us just watched. We also took a lot of photos.

On our way to the hostel we saw a lot of kids sitting on the back of their Utes. A Ute is a utility truck with a clear boot. Once we got to the hostel food was being prepared to welcome us into Tonga and to the church. After we ate we travelled to watch the Heilala Festival which was in town. A Heilala festival happens every year to celebrate the Kings coronation and his birthday.

The next morning we went to Kuini Salote High School where we spent most of the day. We finished school at 4:00 pm. A while later we went for a run and came back exhausted. We went to the Heilala festival to watch the performances. It was awesome! I liked their costumes and the way they danced.

The following day we went to Atele High School followed by Havelu Middle School where we exchanged items of performances. Every night while we were there we always went to the Heilala Festival.

On Friday the 24th to Thursday the 30th we got to go stay with families. Honestly, I felt a bit home sick. On the 26TH August, which was a Sunday, we had to attend the church service. I enjoyed it a lot. After that we had another feed which was prepared again by the people who owned the hostel.

Some of the students stayed back there while three other students and I went on a boat out to little islands called Pangai Motu. We had fun and we also went for a swim but the only problem was that there were a lot of beach lice.

On Friday when we all came back, we had a very huge performance which was also our last and I met a lot of new people. Later we all prepared to come back to New Zealand. I was really glad!

On the last day we said goodbye to family and friends. Then we started boarding the plane and left at 8:40 pm and reached New Zealand at 11:00 pm. We saw our families and were happy but some of us wanted to stay back in Tonga.

This was a very memorable trip for me because it took me back to my roots where I got to learn more about my culture and where my parents came from.

An Awesome Mathex Alphabet Poem

Addition, Subtraction, Multiplication or Division. It’s confusing!

Better be fast because the questions get tougher!

Clock ticking so better get going!

Delving for answers, better stop fumbling!

Everyone working as best they could!

Forward the runners, fast and furious!

Great attempt! But the answer is wrong!

Hang in there and stand tall!

I say we did magnificently, superbly well!

Jumping about happy and excited!

Kids putting 100% effort in!

Learning the different strategies in class are useful skills we practiced!

Mathematic equations for us to figure out!

Never lacking; full speed ahead!

Over with one question, there comes the next!

People helping and working in a team!

Quiet moment, listening please!

Reaching for the goal of victory!

Start again wrong answer!

Teamwork to the highest level!

Uniting as one brain to complete 25 difficult questions!

Very fast runners going ZOOM!

Working out most of the problems!

Xtreme workers pass the limits

Yelling out the count down!

Zooming past before the time ends... STOP!!

Year 8 Boys Netball Report!

On Wednesday the 22nd of July the Year 8 Boy’s A Team went out to Morrin Rd to the Auckland Netball Centre to play hard and stand tall.

Our first game was against Farmcove. They were a hard team to beat and we lost 5-2.

Our next game was against Buckland Beach. This was also a challenging game and we lost again 7-4.

Howick Intermediate was our third game. They were again a hard team to beat and that’s why we lost 12-6

The forth game was against Ellersile. This was the most difficult game and again we lost a big 24-0.

After the match we had a break. This was a chance to get ready and prepared for the next match so some of us practiced.

The fifth game was against Sommerville intermediate and we lost 8-5.

Our sixth and final game was against St. Heliers. They were good at defence but not at attack. It was a fun game but again we lost 4-3.

We had an enjoyable time but lost lots of games. We would like to Thank Mr. Fatialofa and Mr. Utanga for coaching us and the team for playing hard and having fun!!
