At technology, a group of room 15 girls wrote a song and produced a piece
of music with the help of their music teacher, Miss Dekker.
Great stuff girls.

Girls Basketball 09..

On Thursday 13^th August the Girls basketball team travelled down to the A.S.B. Stadium with to compete in the Eastern Zone Basketball Tournament.

When we were arrived there we had a bye. While we were waiting for our first match we warmed up and trained for the last couple of minutes.

Our first match was against Sancta Maria. This was the easiest match ever. We won 28-6. A few minutes later we went on the court again and challenged Saint Kent’s. This was an ultra physical match. In the first half they were leading 10-6 but then we caught up and made it a tie breaker 12-12.

This was our last match for our pool. We challenged Farm Cove Intermediate. It was a very tough game but in the end we managed to pull some tricks and and we won 14-8.

Winning that last match took us to the quarter finals. Our girls were buzzing with excitement. It took us a while to calm down. We then found out that we had to challenge Remuera. This was our hardest game of the day because most of them were taller than our captain Seneti. We were confident that we were going to win but unfortunately we lost 9-8.

We would like to thank our coaches for coaching us and buying us a big feed at McDonald’s and also to those who supported us and especially to our girls for trying their best and keeping their heads up high. In the end we were all players of the day because of our effort and sportsmanship.

I guess you win some and you lose some. As our coach says, “You learn more form losing than from winning.”

Room 15 Awesome Book Reviews

The Lost King!

For two weeks our reading group Shakespeare started doing independent novel reading. I would like to share with you the book that the girls read, The Lost King by Scot Gardner.

This book is about a boy named Peter King aka Kingy who never wanted to go on a school camp, but was forced to go by his mother. While on camp he was put in a group of 4 with a girl named Emily who he didn’t know, Bethany who had made sarcasm an art form and Jye Sullivan aka Sully who was the bully of the story. Kingy was bullied by Sully ever since primary and now thanks to Sully they had left the track they were on and couldn’t find it; luckily for them they had a few outdoor devices that would help them get back home.

The way the author developed the character Kingy was very effective because he had a lot of outdoor experience even though he wasn’t that into the nature life. Sully was also very dramatic with both girls being in his group but he did take over the group so that was a bit stressful for all of them. This book explains a lot of the character’s emotional feelings like depression and confusion to the remaining characters. The author explains how Sully, Kingy, Emily and Bethany eventually get along with each other, which was a good thing.

In my opinion the most significant conflict in the story was Kingy’s group getting lost in the bush for days because they weren’t rescued or anything. It was their own instinct that got them back home. Getting lost maybe scary, but sometimes when you get lost, you also find what’s real. I think that this book is very interesting for young people 12-14yrs because at this time of their life they aren’t coping much with others. Spending some time together helps them bond and become closer. This book is highly recommended.

Yr 8 Girls EZ Soccer Report..

On Monday 17^th May, the Yr8 girl’s soccer team travelled down to Riversdale Park, Avondale to compete in the Eastern Zone Soccer Tournament.

Our first match was against Mission Heights. It was a vey good game. We won 5-0.

We had a bye so we watched the other teams play.

Our next game was against Pakarunga Intermediate. Our team was down 1 nil But Mrs Sigamoney edged us on and we won 4-1.

After that match we went through to the quarter finals. There was no score until the last minute of the game when Elim scored 1 goal. Sadly, this put us out of the semi-finals.

Mrs Sigamoney said we showed great soccer skills. Our star players were our striker’s Senia and Maata. Between the both of them they scored 9 goals. We were proud of our achievements.

Thanks to Mrs Sigamoney and Mr Utanga for training us and preparing us for the tournament.

Year 8 Eastern Zone Softball

!!Softball Report!!
On Wednesday the 4 March the year 8 girl’s softball team travelled down to Sancta Maria College to compete in the eastern Zone games 2009Our first game was against Mission Heights intermediate. This was a very easy game. We got most of there players out on there first bat and we won by 14-0.Our second game was against Baradene College. This was a very fun but challenging game. Eseta did well in her pitching. Our play was strong. We won 8-6.After this game we walked over to where the boys were playing. The boys got a lot of home runs in this game!! When they were out fielding they had good catches and Shades pitching was very good! Paul was a good backstop as well! They were awesome to watch. Our next game was against Farm Cove Intermediate. This was a strict but long game!! All the girls did very well in this game especially with their fielding, running and batting. Mrs Bailey said this was one of our best games throughout the whole day and we won 4-2. Our last game was for first and second place. It was a very challenging game because their umpire came with a lot of unexpected rules that made most of our girls frustrated!! Some positive things that came out of this game was our awesome batting but or fielding was slack for a while. We could have picked ourselves up again but unfortunately time ran out and we lost 10-12. But still we did come second!!! We would like to thank Mrs Bailey and Mr Faatialofa for taking us and helping us to improve on our skills. We would also like to thank Mr Horan, Mrs Waetford and Miss Valoa for a ride there and back. And most of all to the girls for trying there hardest, believing in them selves and striving to their best.
