Mathex - Acrostic Poem

Mathematics problem solving excercise

All around were excited people exercising brains and bodies

The principal calling out the time that was left

Hard and challenging Mathematical problems

Exhilarated people running around and thinking at the same time

X-treme mental and physical races to the finish line.

The winners at Mathex were: Isaiah, Longoa'a, Daniel and Lorraine - 1st with 100% marks
Synergy, Jorjah, Elaine and Rose - 1st with 100% marks

Wearing a helmet while riding a bike

A helmet is a strong covering worn to protect the head.

Helmets come in all shapes, colours and sizes. They are made of strong fibre-glass on the outside. The inside is lined with foam.

While riding a bike, if you don’t wear a helmet you may suffer from serious concussions and may even come close to dying from massive injuries caused by falling and hurting the head.

If you don’t have a helmet, but you get tempted to ride your bike you have three choices: walk, run or don’t go anywhere at all so you don’t get hurt riding your bike without a helmet.

Wear a helmet and you will be safe riding your bike on busy roads.

Writing an explanation

Why must we have breakfast everyday?

Breakfast is the most important meal of the day that anyone can have.
The best breakfast we could have is cereal, milk and fruits because they have goodness in them. They provide us with carbohydrates and vitamins not forgetting the fibre they have which is good for us.
Breakfast can help us get energized and gives us enough strength to sustain us through the day.
So, eat breakfast everyday if you want to be fighting fit, think clearly, be more creative and learn better.

Why we must have breakfast

Breakfast is one of the most important meals of the day. Breakfast can be anything like Ceral, milk, Milo and even a piece of toast. Breakfast helps us do well in school and in tests. We must have breakfast because it gives us energy for the day. Everyday we must have a healthy breakfast to start the day off with.

Mathex Fun Challenge!

Today, after interval Room16 and 15 went to the hall to do a mathematics challenge called Mathex.
We had to do a lot of running during the challenge so no one was disadvantaged while getting our questions and submitting our answers. The challenge was fun yet we had to exercise our brains and our bodies at the same time. As we were running to collect our questions and taking our answers to the markers sitting at the front of the hall, there was excitement in the air.
Not only was the problem solving challenge hard, it was also fun. People were shouting and running, hearts were pumping fast, faces turned red with excitement and brains kept turning like the wind during thunder storms. Our hands were aching trying to solve the problems fast.
Our principal was timing us and when he called “3, 2, 1 Stop!” Our hearts slowed down. The buzz in the hall calmed down too.
Even though my team didn’t win, we still tried our best and learned a lot.

Learning to write an explanation

Breakfast is the most important meal of the day because it provides the energy needed to start the day off right.
A healthy breakfast consists of milk, fruit, and cereals.
Children who eat a good breakfast perform better in school, pay more attention, are more creative, think better and score higher on tests. They are also less likely to be overweight.
Eating a healthy breakfast does not need to take a lot of time.
We must all eat breakfast everyday because it offers more benefits.

Explanation

A helmet is a strong covering worn to protect your head when you ride a bike. Helmets come in many shapes, sizes and colours to choose from.

We wear a helmet while riding a bike so that we don’t hurt ourselves seriously. Wearing a helmet is just like wearing a seatbelt in a car.

Wearing a helmet saves our head and can even save our lives. The helmet takes the critical damage for you.

If you don’t wear a helmet you can get real serious injuries. You might die if you ride fast and crash into an object and hit your head on the object or on concrete roads.

So remember, always wear a helmet when you ride your bike.

Taiapa's holiday recount

During the holidays my team mates and I went to Christchurch for a soccer tournament. We flew there on the fourth of July. When we arrived there, we got together and walked towards the bus stop to take us to our apartment we hired. When we got to the apartment we unpacked our bags then we hopped into our beds and went to sleep.
The next morning we woke up and got changed. After that we got ready for breakfast. We all had porridge, toast and milo. Later, we went to catch a bus to our game. Our team was very excited to be in a new place to challenge other teams.
We played against a team called the Coastal Spirits. We stayed in Christchurch for a week and we played many teams. We won one game. We tried really hard and developed some skills during our games.
It was time for us to pack our bags and clean up the apartment. When we finished we had pizza for dinner and then caught the bus to the Airport. Then we boarded the plane to fly back to Auckland.
When we arrived at Auckland airport, our family members were waiting for us. I got home and went straight to bed and fell asleep as I was very tired.
This experience gave my team and me confidence, skills and passion for playing soccer.

Synergy's holiday recount

When the holidays started I was so happy that I could finally have a few days off school. When I got home I decided I wanted to turn my room into a home cinema. The first thing I did was sell my standard CRT T.V. and my two computers on ‘Trade me’. After I sold them I bought me a flat screen LCD T.V. and a home theatre system with surround sound speakers. I couldn`t contain my excitement. Then I set it up and watched Will Smith’s movie called Seven Pounds. It seemed like I was actually in a movie theatre. I was happy with my purchase.
Having completed my dream ‘theatre’ makeover for my room, I asked my Mum if she could drop me off to my Dad in Te Aroha. Mum was pleased to do this, when we got there it so windy that my Dads’ neighbour’s house shed roof blew off and went flying down the street. I think it must have been a mini tornado dancing around furiously. The next day my Dad, my aunty and I were about to go to Candyland, but then it started to rain and strong winds began to rush around, we decided to stay in front of the warm fire to play XBOX 360. My aunty had a cool game called ‘Spore’ which I played and enjoyed myself.
When I finally came back home to Auckland, I visited a house called Alberton house. It was a historic mansion. It originally had four acres of garden. It also has a small room which servants lived in. The house also has room for cooks, baker and gardeners. It is an old, historical house. The other days of the holidays I did fun things. I love holidays but miss school for real.
