Athletics Day 1

Friday the 13^th November 2009 was a great day for athletics. It was Day One of our Inter-House Athletics.

There was a buzz around the school. Excited students and painted faces. I was in the Intermediate Boys Group A which was Calliope and Orpheus House. We all lined up outside on the netball courts, waiting for Miss Waetford’s instructions. Then each group proceeded to their first event. The events for the day were 100m, 200m, long jump, high jump, hurdles, shot put, discus and javelin.

Our first event was the long jump. It was a great event and Patrick from Calliope House jumped the furthest. We proceeded to our next event which was high jump. I didn’t like that event but I still tried. Unfortunately it didn’t go well again. I couldn’t wait for our next event the 100 metre sprint. This was my favourite event because I came 2^nd but again Patrick came first. We were off to our last event, the hurdles. The hurdles were different this year. It was like a game obstacle. This time Orpheus won.

I think Athletics was so coll. I felt like doing it again!

Coca Cola Career Expo

On Friday the 7^th of August all the year 8’s from Tamaki Intermediate School went by bus to the ASB Showgrounds to go to the Coca Cola Careers Expo. This was my first visit to a Career’s Expo and I was surprised to see how huge it was.

When we entered the showgrounds, there were a lot of college students and lots of different schools. They were all there to find about different careers and university options. The people at each career station were very friendly and helpful. I was walking around with Patrick but then he ditched me and I got lost.

I was looking at many jobs that caught my attention. The ones that I liked would have to be the Air New Zealand, The Phone Company called Telecom XT and the NZ Army. I got to ask questions about these jobs and I may consider one of them as a career. The visit to the Expo made me realise that there are tremendous opportunities out there for students

I like getting the blue slips because you could get a free mineral water. I got 4 drinks with these blue slips and I got another free mineral water for doing the microphone challenge that was outside from 91 ZM.

It was noisy in the expo and there was loud music. There was a group called Pipa who did a dance performance for us. It was cool. Shade got some tickets from them to go and watch them perform. They asked me if I would shuffle but I didn’t want to.

I had a great time at the Expo and I think all the year 8’s did too. It was educational, informative and a good day out.

Year 8 Boys Netball Report!

On Wednesday the 22^nd of July the Year 8 Boy’s A Team went out to Morrin Rd to the Auckland Netball Centre to play hard and stand tall.

Our first game was against Farmcove. They were a hard team to beat and we lost 5-2.

Our next game was against Buckland Beach. This was also a challenging game and we lost again 7-4.

Howick Intermediate was our third game. They were again a hard team to beat and that’s why we lost 12-6

The forth game was against Ellersile. This was the most difficult game and again we lost a big 24-0.

After the match we had a break. This was a chance to get ready and prepared for the next match so some of us practiced.

The fifth game was against Sommerville intermediate and we lost 8-5.

Our sixth and final game was against St. Heliers. They were good at defence but not at attack. It was a fun game but again we lost 4-3.

We had an enjoyable time but lost lots of games. We would like to Thank Mr. Fatialofa and Mr. Utanga for coaching us and the team for playing hard and having fun!!

Ship For World Youth!!

The Tamaki Intermediate Year 8 classes were very lucky to have the Ship For World Youth come to our school. They were young people of different nationalities from all parts of the world. They came to share with us their language, culture and interests. Some students from Room 15 wanted to share what they learnt. Check it Out!
P.S. This is not Room 8 but Room 15, Year 8
